Hey, let me tell you about this Arc'teryx Fissile down jacket I've been checking out. It's got this 3 - layer 80d GORE - TEX C - KNIT hard shell, and you know what? It's really quiet. You don't get that annoying rustling sound like some other jackets.
Inside, it's stuffed with 750 - fill - power European grey goose down, and they've also added 60 grams per square meter of PrimaLoft Silver. That's some good - quality insulation right there.
The way they've filled the down is pretty smart. It's in zones, and the front kind of reminds me of the Thorium SV. The inner part seems to have two layers, and so far, I haven't had any issues with the down poking through.
The pockets aren't huge, but that's not a big deal. There's this handy little cloth on the right - hand side for wiping your snow goggles, which is a nice touch. And inside, there's a powder skirt, plus underarm zippers for when you start to heat up.
The fit is in line with what Arc'teryx has been doing since 2023. I'm 5'9" and 150 pounds. Usually, a size S in Macai fits me like a glove, but this Fissile in size S is a bit snug. If I try to put a thin fleece underneath, it's a real struggle. Just wearing a base layer, my underarms feel a bit pinched.
I gotta say, I'm not a huge fan of the fit changes they made in 2023. Before that, I could wear a size S in almost everything, maybe just a couple of things in M. But after 2023, most of the S - sized jackets feel too tight in the underarms. The only two S - sized ones that still fit well are the Proton Heavyweight and the Leaf Atom.
Now, this Fissile isn't the SV version, and it's not super thick either. I couldn't find the official down - fill amount anywhere. But when I put it on, it looks pretty sleek. I don't look like a Michelin man or anything. Only thing is, that Arc'teryx logo is massive!
If you can find the right size, though, I think this jacket is definitely worth getting. It's got some great features, and it's an Arc'teryx, so you know it's quality.
