Salomon S/Lab Genesis Trail - Running Shoes review: My Honest Take

Hey, all you trail - running fanatics! Let's chat about the Salomon S/Lab Genesis Trail - Running Shoes. I've been putting these bad boys through their paces, and here's what I think.

1. Fit: True to Size, but Narrow Toe Box

The size 44 on these shoes is pretty spot - on. But here's the thing, the front part, the toe box, is kind of narrow. It can squish your little toes a bit. I ran a 55 - k at Chai Gu, and I was okay, but a lot of people complain that these shoes feel small and narrow. If you've got wide feet, you might want to go a half - size up. You'll thank me later.

2. Cushioning: Balanced and Steady

The midsole uses Salomon's classic energy foam. The front is 24.5 mm thick, and the back is 33.5 mm. They copied the s - lab version exactly. The cushioning is really balanced. It's not like those super - soft, bouncy shoes with thick, foamy midsoles. These give you a nice, steady feel. They soak up the shock when you run, but they're not too squishy. It's a good, solid ride.

3. Grip: The Best Yet

The All terrain contagrip on this version is the grippiest rubber Salomon has ever made. Believe it or not, the regular Genesis is actually grippier than the s - lab version. I ran three races this year - Jiufeng, Ninghai, and Chai Gu. All of them were in the rain or on wet trails. And you know what? I only fell once (and that crazy mud slide at Ninghai doesn't really count). These shoes stick to the ground like glue, even when it's slippery.

4. Stability: Great for Long Runs

The sides of the middle and back of the shoe have this extra - thick, reinforced rubber (Active chassis). It really helps with ankle stability. This is super important for those long - distance trail runs. When your ankles start to get tired, these shoes give you that extra support. But if you're just doing short runs, like under 30 kilometers, you might not notice much of a difference.

5. Bang for Your Buck

This year, Salomon was giving away these shoes like crazy. They had all these races, from the beginning of the year at Jiufeng to the Chai Gu race in October. Because of that, there are a ton of new or barely - used ones on the second - hand market. You can get one for around $600. That's a steal for a shoe this good.

6. Brand Confusion and Final Thoughts

Salomon says this regular Genesis is a short - to - mid - distance shoe. But that doesn't make sense. The s - lab Genesis is for ultra - long distances. Courtney used it to win the UTMB 100 - miler. The midsole and outsole are the same in both. They just changed the upper and the fit a bit. So, don't just go by what the brand says. Try these shoes on for yourself. In my opinion, the Genesis is a do - it - all shoe. You can use it for short runs, long runs, even 100 - mile races. It's like the new version of the first - gen Sense Ride. It's an amazing shoe for regular folks like us.

With advanced cushioning and a precise fit, these shoes inspire confidence to push your limits and unlock new adventures. Finding Savings on Salomon S/Lab Genesis: Beyond major retailers, explore online outlet stores and discount sites. Restock Alerts are Key: Due to high demand, the Salomon S/Lab Genesis often sells out quickly, particularly in popular sizes. If you're hunting for a specific size or color, restock alerts are your best friend. Most retailers offer this feature on their product pages. When a fresh batch of shoes becomes available, you'll receive an email, giving you a competitive edge. Don't forget to check smaller, independent running stores, too. They sometimes have limited stock that isn't widely publicized.

Stay Informed on Price Drops and Discounts: Regularly track price drops as retailers clear inventory for new releases. Social media is also a valuable resource. Follow Salomon and key retailers on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook for early announcements of sales and promotions. By combining these tactics – monitoring retailers, leveraging price alerts, setting up restock notifications, and staying informed about potential discounts and offers – you'll dramatically improve your chances of acquiring these outstanding trail running shoes at the best possible price.
